PALOMA SKY
7.00

Paloma Sky weaves together the elegance, groove and vivacity of jazz and leaves out anything stuffy. Bandleader Marie Goudy’s compositions feature sophisticated harmonies paired with catchy melodies that are brought to life by vocalist Jocelyn Barth’s sensitive musicality and “sensuous” vocal delivery (All About Jazz). Rounding out the sound, the instrumentalists take advantage of Goudy’s generous arrangements to stretch out and flex their technical prowess. Dynamic trumpet solos and lush vocal harmonies echo throughout Goudy's writing, influenced by her decade of experience playing mariachi music - a subtle but defining feature of Paloma Sky. Together, the quintet creates passionate jazz music that is infused with skill and charisma. Paloma Sky is a refreshing offering intended for a broad modern audience.

Paloma Sky is the next evolution of Goudy and Barth's long-time musical partnership. Whereas their first offering, 2018 album The Bitter Suite, featured “haunting and introspective” (The WholeNote) originals arranged for 12tet, this project finds Goudy and Barth wholeheartedly embracing a sense of fun and vitality. The ensemble features the rhythm section of Stu Harrison on piano, Nick Arseneau on bass and Andrew Scott on drums. Paloma Sky invites listeners to lean into the music, infusing passion and positive energy into everything they do.
