CHINYI C

Singapore-born, Toronto-based Chinyi C is an indie folk artist whose music blends intricate fingerpicking, folk-pop elements, and poignant lyricism. Her sound is deeply rooted in a life shaped by constant movement, inspired by landscapes, cultures, and stories from the Pacific Northwest and Southeast Asia. Drawing on the soundscapes of places she’s called home, her music captures the emotional complexity of transitions, often balancing the ache of goodbyes with the quiet hope of new beginnings.
Chinyi’s songs explore themes of identity, love, loss, and human connection. Often deeply personal and resonant with audiences, her lyrics delve into the raw, vulnerable moments that come with navigating change, rebuilding home, and the search for belonging, while her delicate guitar work and soothing vocals create an intimate atmosphere that invites reflection. Her latest single, Human (2024), exemplifies these themes, blending folk and chamber-pop influences in a tribute to the people and places that impact our lives.
Chinyi has played stages including Sofar Sounds, YYZ Live, Music on the Fly@YTZ, and can often be found in local Toronto music venues. She is currently involved with the Incubator program at Small World Music Centre, and is working on her next recording project that blends modern folk with globally inspired sounds.
