Janice Jo Lee (she/they) is a touring queer folk musician based in Toronto. She is interested in using art to build flourishing communities based in justice and joy. Her work explores gender justice, antiracism, friendship, community, ancestry and the Earth. Lee’s latest album Ancestor Song is a powerful melodic journey exploring themes of water, workers, burnout, and healing. The new songs are the Lullabyes for End Times: valedictions, love letters, and laments for our dystopian world. On stage she performs theatrical spoken word pieces and sweeping songs built on layers of cascading harmonies. With her guitar, looping pedal, trumpet, disarmingly funny candour and poetically-rich lyrics, Lee commands the stage. She is joined by Camilo Diaz-Varela and Y Josephine on vocals and percussion. The trio conjure warm energy, asks questions about our times, and leave audiences rejuvenated and aglow.
