SUNDAY

FORRÓ WITH MARIA & THE BAND

2.00

We are thrilled to invite the Forró community of Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area to our lively Forró afternoons at Drom Taberna, happening every Sunday from July 28 to August 18 at 2 to 5 PM.

This is a wonderful opportunity to immerse yourself in the vibrant rhythms of Brazilian culture and music, right here in our city.

Join us for an afternoon filled with the enchanting beats of Forró, featuring performances by Maria and The Band, along with special guest appearances by local musicians. For three hours, let the music transport you to the heart of Brazil, surrounded by one of Toronto's most welcoming and popular venues that combines delectable food with a deep love for music.

Supporting events like this is crucial for the sustainability of the Brazilian cultural scene in our community. Your presence not only enriches the experience but also helps keep such vibrant cultural gatherings alive. Let’s come together to celebrate, dance, and ensure that Forró continues to thrive in Toronto.

We look forward to seeing you every Sunday at Drom Taberna for an unforgettable afternoon of music, dance, and community spirit!

BIRD MUSIC
5.30

Birdmusic is an indie-jazz trio local to Toronto. They take elements of a traditional jazz trio and blend it with the jangly sound of contemporary indie music. Their repertoire features original songs, as well as interpretations of jazz standards, indie/pop tunes, folk tunes and other familiar favourites that they love. The trio features Dan Davidson on Guitar, Henry Gouthro on Bass and Taira Macdonald on Drums.

OPERA REVUE

8.00

Opera Revue began with the question “Why does opera get such a bad rap?”. We came up with several answers: It’s expensive. You have to dress up. It’s snobby. You can’t drink, except during intermission. You can’t talk. It’s snobby. You can’t get up and move around. And it’s snobby.

So, that’s what we have set out to change. Opera Revue is a great way to introduce opera to people who have never seen it before, as well as a new way for opera lovers to enjoy it. We perform opera, opera parodies and even a bit of musical theatre in casual bar settings, where our audiences can feel comfortable to talk, drink, and to share the experience with those around them, without breaking the bank to afford a ticket! We aim to take away the exclusive nature of opera, and make it accessible for all audiences.

About our guests, Kobo Town:
Named after the storied district in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, where calypso was born, Kobo Town has been described as “an intoxicating blend of lilting calypsonian wit, dancehall reggae and trombone-heavy brass” (Guardian) and a “unique, transnational composite of rhythm, poetry and activist journalism.”(Exclaim!)
