FRIDAY

ROBERT STANLEY ADAMS POETRY LAUNCH
2.00PM

Robert “Bobby” Stanley Adams was born in Calgary, Alberta in 1952 to a Scottish-Roma Romanian mother, Doreen Adams (née Ellis), and a Saulteaux-Cree father, James Adams. He is a member of Pasqua First Nation Band no. 79 in Treaty 4 Territory, Saskatchewan, Canada and he now lives in Hamilton, Ontario with his lovely wife Anne Goodbody.

Robert enjoys spending time with his glamorous daughter, Tamar Ilana Cohen Adams, and his dynamic son-in-law, Ali Wasti; smoking cigars; and visiting with his many friends and family. Robert wrote this collection over the course of 20 years, finalizing it while living with Parkinson’s Disease in his early 70s.

When he was 21, Robert had a vision of a holographic lion which led him down a lifelong spiritual path, canoeing solo down the Yukon River, studying Master Subramunya’s teachings, and traveling halfway across the country to enroll at Concordia University. He became a member of I.A.T.S.E Local 667 over 35 years ago and in 1997 he directed a documentary called “Urban Elder” for the National Film Board of Canada. Currently, he is working on a documentary entitled “Looking for God on the #2 Barton Street Bus”. Catch Robert at his favourite spot in Toronto, DROM Taberna, or in Hamilton, The Brain Pub, for a great conversation.

Robert will be joined by multi-instrumentalist Demetri Petsalakis, multiple readers, and some surprise guests!

LOVE HURTS
11.30

Love Hurts loves country music, and this 6-piece band of veteran Toronto musicians will make you love country music, too.

Established in 2022, Love Hurts has been breathing new life into bonafide country classics and forgotten gems, pinning heart wrenching 50s balladry alongside 70s outlaw swagger, and 90s honky-tonk revival with swooning 60s countrypolitan. From Patsy Cline to Linda Ronstadt, George Jones to George Strait, Love Hurts makes the cream of the country music songbook sound as fresh as the day it was made.

Fronted by two dynamic singers, Barbara Johnston and Lowell Sostomi, and back by a cracking band who eat country licks for breakfast, Love Hurts follows no guide but a great song: if the tune makes you weep, call your momma, drink 15 beers, or cuss out your ex, you just might hear it at Love Hurts’ next gig.

Long-time lovers of the genre will rejoice to hear Love Hurts’ faithful versions of old favourites, yet new ears to country will be won over by the excitement of their live shows. Dueling pedal-steel (Adrian Cook) and electric guitar (Shaun Hogan), and a down n’ dirty rhythm section that’ll make your grandma grin (Ty Rowles & Kyle Watt): Love Hurts puts on a live show that is not to be missed.

So calling all members of life’s rich pageant: in country music there’s a song for each of you. And if Love Hurts is playing, you’re all invited to the dance.

STOMPIN’ TREES
2.30

From the troubled mind of a mad man comes a melody. Through the whiskey-soaked vocal chords comes a sound. Slide to steel to seal the deal. From the streets of Vancouver to the alleys of Montréal.
Stompin' Trees are a modern interpretation of what music once was, that evokes the echoes of old blues songs in the mountains of repertoire that has come since. Raw folk in a refined form, understanding in the eye of the storm.
