XEFIRA & ELENA SPANU
11.00

Get ready for an evening of musical storytelling, spell-casting and adventure,  as Xefira and Elena share original tunes and find common ground in their compositional journeys and processes.

Elena Spanu at the age of 2 pointed to the television screen where children were playing the violin and declared ‘I want that.’ To this day she still wonders what compelled that little spirit to ask for such a thing. Elena continues to explore this question through her desire to express through music that which words can’t. From melodies about flowers to musical odes to the ocean, Elena captures the spirit and essence of the things that move her in the music she creates.

Xefira (she/they) is a trans-genre fiddle player emerging from deep cover, where she’s been crafting a zine’s worth of queer & joyful new tunes. After rocking the bluegrass world for 7 years with Switchback Road, Xefira is stretching their wings & breaking binaries to bring you pirate dances & soup jigs, backed up by the incredible Lea Kirstein (Medusa) and firebrand sibling Rosemary Ganton.

Prepare to dive into reel-infested waters for a whimsical, genre-twisting good time.
