Honeypaw is a duo with Jurgita Žvinklytė and Matti Palonen. Since 2019 they have been playing Finno-Baltic neofolk, focusing primarily on the interconnection of ancient Lithuanian sutartinė and Finnish runolaulu traditions. They play traditional instruments including kantele, jouhikko, and skudučiai, blending them with modern soundscapes and rhythms.
In 2023, they visited the archives of the Finnish Literature Society and obtained copies of the wax cylinder recordings made by Finnish folklorist A.R.Niemi, which included the first ever recordings of the Lithuanian sutartinė tradition. In 2024 they developed new repertoire based on the unpublished wax cylinder field recordings, and will present the material in the Lithuanian villages where Niemi made the recordings in October.
