8.00 - DISKARTE

Diskarte is a Toronto-based band founded in 2017 by Jon Catanus. They adhere to the philosophy and definition of the Tagalog word “diskarte,” improvising sets of groovy, soulful and intense music with a keen focus on the distinct voice and style of each individual musician. Stretching from virtuosic uptempo shredding to the most simple, sincerely delivered melody, there is nothing like the way these musicians strike the perfect balance between playfulness and wholehearted commitment to the music, each other, and the audience. The band consists of Jon Catanus (drums), Caleb Klager (bass), Victor Xu (piano), and Bjorn Kriel (vibraphone).

Philip Kukulak is a songwriter from Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Inspired by artists like Luke Temple, Nick Drake, and Paul Simon, Phil writes simple songs and makes no effort to dazzle. Concise, direct, and unapologetic folk music is his preferred mode of cataloguing his experiences with grief, irony, and love.
